Shoddy bank service

The Star Early Edition - - LETTERS - Tom Lambe

ONE OF my duties as manager of our local Bowls Club is to make deposits at, and collect change from our local bank branch, which happens to be in The Glen shopping centre in the South of Joburg.

In the banks of today you make deposits in an ATM, but if you require change you are required to enter the branch.

One would expect that to obtain R500 of R2 coins, one would deal with a teller.

In my ageing stupidity I approached a teller who looked at me totally aghast when I asked for change and was directed to the “bulk” teller.

Unless there has been a change in our currency, I find it hard to believe that R500 is considered bulk cash!

I find it totally staggering that tellers no longer have coins.

After waiting some time for the one (yes one!) bulk teller point that was operating, and a teller who was dealing with a small mountain of bank notes, I finally left the bank without R2 coins.

I was even further incensed by having to pay a parking fee after having achieved exactly nothing!

A local shop in Linmeyer obliged me with the required amount of R2 coins.

Why bother with “no bank services”? Oakdene, Joburg
