TRADE and Industry Minister Rob Davies said he was at the World Economic Forum to better understand the Fourth Industrial Revolution and its impact on the world, and especially workers. Davies is part of a high-level government, business and civil society delegation, led by Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa, at WEF in Davos-Klosters to sell South Africa to the international investment community. Speaking from the Congress Centre in Davos yesterday, Davies said: “As an industry minister I follow closely the Fourth Industrial Revolution,” citing the research and analysis being done and presented at WEF. On the issue of the advancement in technology, he said: “We see some already in South Africa, but others are on the horizon. My question is: But what about the workers?” Previous industrial revolutions had affected only certain industries, but the Fourth Industrial Revolution would affect everyone. – ANA
