WHITE maize for de­liv­ery in March traded 2.3 per­cent lower at R3 283 a ton on the SA Fu­tures Ex­change yesterday af­ter ear­lier drop­ping by the limit for a third con­sec­u­tive ses­sion.

“South Africa’s maize crop is in a fairly good con­di­tion,” Wandile Sihlobo, head of eco­nomic and agribusi­ness in­tel­li­gence at Agri­cul­tural Busi­ness Cham­ber, said in a re­port.

“Weather fore­casts sug­gest that high rain­fall pat­terns will re­turn to the maize ar­eas next week af­ter a brief pause over the past few days,” Sihlobo said.

Con­tract for July, the most ac­tive, gained 0.3 per­cent to R2 336 a ton. – Bloomberg
