Payment dates not ideal for pensioners
Roland Solomon of Blairgowrie writes: The City of Johannesburg must be complimented for planning to introduce realistic and more consistent power meter readings. Before, we never knew where we stood – billing could range from 15-day readings to as many as 50-odd.
In the past few months, the payment date has been the first of each month and this has been ideal for many pensioners I know – including myself. Now, under a new scheme, we can choose to pay by the 15th or 28th.
Whoever dreamt up these dates did not take into consideration that many funds only pay out pensions on the last day of the month.
We pensioners have so many codes, dates etc – business and medical – to remember these days, and our memories are not what they were, otherwise 15th would be an option for those receiving pensions on the last day of the month.
Would the city please consider changing payment dates to the 15th of a month and to the 1st of every month instead of the 28th? It would be less stressful for many pensioners.
