Open letter to Education MEC

The Star Early Edition - - LIFESTYLE VERVE - Judith Taylor

GAUTENG MEC of Education Panyaza Lesufi, you have known for five years that the province needs at least 200 new schools, and yet you have only built 41.

Pupil-teacher ratios have risen beyond what is acceptable. School fees are rising above what is acceptable to cope with the influx so that more teachers can be employed by governing bodies.

The fact is that you are failing in your job to make education accessible to the children of Gauteng and their parents. As I look across our country, I realise how badly our children have been let down.

More and more have no access to education or life in general. So many are orphans with no support. MEC Lesufi, you should be ashamed, as so should all your colleagues, of the way you are treating South Africa’s future. Please re-acquaint yourself with the Freedom Charter and the constitution and take the actions that you are required to do. Sandton
