US drone kills two

The Star Early Edition - - WORLD -

SANA’A: Two suspected members of al-Qaeda’s Yemen branch were killed yesterday by what local officials believed was a US drone strike. If confirmed, it would be the first such attack since US President Donald Trump assumed office on Friday.

The men were killed when a missile hit their vehicle in southern al-Bayda province. The US conducted dozens of drone strikes throughout Barack Obama’s presidency to combat al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula – one of the global militants’ most dangerous branches. Trump has said he would back an escalation of the fight against Islamist militants. – Reuters
