A CONSTABLE, 42, and his accomplice, 43, have been arrested, the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (Hawks) in Mpumalanga said yesterday. Captain Dineo Lucy Sekgotodi said the constable’s partner in crime – the constable who pretended to be a police captain – told two attorneys between November and this month there were people who wanted to kill them. The pair updated the attorneys on the investigation. They later told the attorneys that two suspected hitmen had been arrested and the captain wanted a reward for saving their lives. The attorneys reported the matter to the police and it was escalated to the Hawks. A meeting was arranged for a R16 000 reward to be paid and it was then that the Hawks pounced. The pair were arrested on Friday and were due to appear in the Nelspruit Magistrate’s Court yesterday.
