The Star Early Edition - - LETTERS - Rathan B Garrib MT Makhura

I WISH to express my deepest disappointment in the selection of the Proteas T20 team.

Why do we have to be indebted to fringe players, who might have excelled in the domestic T20 competition, at the expense of our star players?

Our defeat in the second T20 against Sri Lanka is inexcusable and the selectors should be fired forthwith.

After a 5-nil drubbing of Australia, we go on to lose to a hapless Sri Lankan side.

This has a bearing on our T20 ranking, and to reach the top we must insist that we win all our games. The rankings of our top players are also affected.

A defeat to a weak Sri Lankan team because of third-grade players is an insult to South Africans. Let them be selected on merit rather than twisted logic.

Just when SA cricket is blossoming, we are subjected to such a fiasco by our selectors. What a disgrace! Come on Haroon Lorgat, put your foot down on this malpractice. Buccleuch IT’S sad to see what is happening to our lovely country, which will eventually become like our neighbouring countries.

What the ruling party is doing – being hungry for money and power – is different from what Albert Luthuli taught it.

It’s just like what the president said about the succession debate: he wants to be succeeded by his ex-wife for his own safety. His recommendation is seen as a static endorsement of his wife.

This after he was discouraged by party members from engaging in or discussing the succession race – and told to rather focus on policy.

We, as South Africans, have the right to choose which party to vote for.

Withholding this right discourages the youth from voting for the ANC – that’s why it didn’t do well in the previous elections. Watch out! Kaalfontein, Tembisa
