Liberty Media take over Formula One

The Star Early Edition - - SPORT -

FORMULA One boss Bernie Ecclestone could leave his position this week as Liberty Media prepare to complete their takeover of the sport, British media reported yesterday. Ecclestone, 86, has led the elite motorsport for 40 years but Liberty has already appointed Chase Carey as F1 chairman and it is reportedly on the verge of creating another executive position to handle marketing and sponsorship. That would effectively rob Ecclestone of his power within F1 even if he remained in an adapted role. Last week Liberty gained approval of its shareholders and the sport’s FIA governing body for the takeover and only formalities are left before concluding the deal.
