Sisulu denies operation
ANC ACTIVIST Shaka Sisulu has hit back at reports linking him to the covert operation allegedly commissioned by the ANC to discredit opposition parties in the 2016 municipal elections.
In a statement released yesterday, Sisulu said he was “deeply troubled” by the reports.
“These reports are inherently false, exaggerated and no doubt intended to discredit, in part, my reputation and most significantly the ANC,” he said.
It has been reported that public relations expert Sihle Bolani is suing the ANC for R2.2 million for work she did on the R5m project.
In her court papers, she named Sisulu and businessman Joseph Nkadimeng as the people behind the campaign to discredit the DA and EFF during the election campaign.
Sisulu maintained he had volunteered for the ANC election for the past 18 years.
“I am not and shall never be apologetic for any contribution I make to the ANC,” he said.
He added that as volunteers they were not paid but did so for the love of the ruling party. “This is something we’re made aware of in the provisions of the Electoral Code and we’re careful not to break the law in our electioneering work.”
While he confirmed working “briefly” with Bolani, he insisted it was not for a covert operation. –
