DOMESTIC maize stocks had dropped 20 percent from a year ago at the end of December, the SA Grain Information Service said on its on website yesterday.
The country had 3.12 million tons of maize stocks at the end of last month, compared with 3.91 million tons a year earlier.
The stocks included 1.52 million tons of yellow maize and 1.6 million tons of the white variety.
Meanwhile, wheat for delivery in March lost 0.8 percent to $4.23 a bushel (R2 084 a ton) on the Chicago Board of Trade.
Maize for same delivery month declined 0.5 percent to $3.61 a bushel. Prices reached one-week low. – Bloomberg
