Free State shopkeeper murdered

A BANGLADESH­I was shot dead during a robbery at a store in Saaiplaas, Virginia, in the Free State, police said yesterday. At about 7pm on Sunday, two men entered the store, threatened employees with a firearm and demanded money from the 25-year-old victim, identified as SM Sakil. “They allegedly pulled open the till drawer and found it to be full of coins, after which one of the suspects allegedly fired a shot at Sakil,” spokespers­on Sergeant Mamello Mokhuoane said. “The suspects fled empty handed.” Mokhuoane said employees hid at the back of the shop. Sakil was declared dead at the scene. A murder docket has been opened. – ANA
