MY FAM­ILY were en route to Mecca via Egypt Air on De­cem­ber 16 last year. Some fam­ily mem­bers were in­ten­tion­ally de­layed by OR Tambo of­fi­cials want­ing a bribe, which re­sulted in them miss­ing the flight.

The case was re­ported and we have a case num­ber. State­ments were taken by po­lice and there’s CCTV footage show­ing of­fi­cials try­ing to elicit a bribe.

We re­ceived a small re­fund from the travel agent, but we’ve lost out on a lot of money thus far and have had no ticket re­fund as yet.

We’re los­ing hope and are to­tally frus­trated!

The mat­ter was dealt with in­ter­nally and dis­ci­plinary ac­tion was taken, but why should we have to ab­sorb the cost of cor­rup­tion at the air­port? We’ve lost about R23 000 and can­not af­ford lawyers.
