Luvo keeps on jump­ing

NOT TO be out­shone by his sprint­ing com­pa­tri­ots, Olympic long jump sil­ver medal­list Luvo Many­onga con­tin­ued his siz­zling form, win­ning his spe­cial­ist event at the FBK Games in Hen­gelo, Nether­lands last night.

Many­onga landed three cen­time­tres short of his South African record with a fi­nal leap of 8.62m.

Prov­ing to be a model of con­sis­tency, Many­onga opened with a jump of 8.60m be­fore record­ing jumps of 8.49m, and 8.46m.

It was a one-two fin­ish for South Africa with Ruswahl Sa­maai bag­ging the sil­ver medal with a best jump of 8.34m.

South African 110m hur­dlers record-holder An­to­nio Alkana won his race in a time of 13.47, while women’s 100m ace Ca­rina Horn earned the bronze medal in her race in 11.35.

In the fi­nal race of the meet, Jo­bod­wana claimed the 200m sil­ver medal with a sea­son’s best of 20.62 in only his sec­ond half-lap race of the year. –
