Luvo keeps on jumping
NOT TO be outshone by his sprinting compatriots, Olympic long jump silver medallist Luvo Manyonga continued his sizzling form, winning his specialist event at the FBK Games in Hengelo, Netherlands last night.
Manyonga landed three centimetres short of his South African record with a final leap of 8.62m.
Proving to be a model of consistency, Manyonga opened with a jump of 8.60m before recording jumps of 8.49m, and 8.46m.
It was a one-two finish for South Africa with Ruswahl Samaai bagging the silver medal with a best jump of 8.34m.
South African 110m hurdlers record-holder Antonio Alkana won his race in a time of 13.47, while women’s 100m ace Carina Horn earned the bronze medal in her race in 11.35.
In the final race of the meet, Jobodwana claimed the 200m silver medal with a season’s best of 20.62 in only his second half-lap race of the year. –
