Neighbours can stay

The Star Early Edition - - WORLD -

DOHA: Qatar has moved to avoid a further escalation of tension with its Gulf neighbours by saying their citizens are “free to remain in the country”.

Qatar’s interior ministry said nationals of countries that had recently severed diplomatic ties with Qatar were free to stay on in the Gulf state in line with existing regulations. It said there was no change in policy towards the nationals of “brotherly and friendly countries, which cut or reduced diplomatic relations following the malicious and hostile campaigns against Qatar”. Qatar was willing to “hold a dialogue” to end the current tension.
