Downpour kills 6

WUHAN: Six people have been killed in central China’s Hubei Province since last Friday in heavy rain, the local government reported yesterday. The downpour caused flooding and other geological disasters in at least 11 cities. More than 1 200 residents were relocated while 415 200 people had reported damaged property, civil affairs authoritie­s said. More than 250 houses collapsed, about 41 000 hectares of farmland was flooded, causing direct economic losses estimated at 311 million yuan (R588m). – Xinhua
