Down­pour kills 6

WUHAN: Six peo­ple have been killed in cen­tral China’s Hubei Prov­ince since last Fri­day in heavy rain, the lo­cal govern­ment re­ported yes­ter­day. The down­pour caused flood­ing and other ge­o­log­i­cal dis­as­ters in at least 11 cities. More than 1 200 res­i­dents were re­lo­cated while 415 200 peo­ple had re­ported dam­aged prop­erty, civil af­fairs au­thor­i­ties said. More than 250 houses col­lapsed, about 41 000 hectares of farm­land was flooded, caus­ing di­rect eco­nomic losses es­ti­mated at 311 mil­lion yuan (R588m). – Xin­hua
