Stir over new flats for London fire survivors

The Star Early Edition - - WORLD -

WITH the Grenfell Tower fire in London leaving many residents homeless, and pressured by waves of protest, the British government announced it had purchased a block of recently built apartments located in Kensington Row, where the survivors will share a complex with high-end, luxury apartments.

Although many local residents have said they are happy the survivors now have a place to live, other residents in the next-door luxury apartments have complained about the arrival of their new neighbours from Grenfell Tower, saying that it will cause property values to drop and calling the move “unfair”.

One luxury apartment resident said he was “very sad” for the victims but added that the Grenfell survivors moving in nearby would “degrade things”. Xinhua
