Malema’s lawyer in the dock

PROM­I­NENT Lim­popo attorney Tumi Mokoena, fac­ing four counts of at­tempted mur­der, was granted bail of R10 000 in the Le­bowak­gomo Mag­is­trate’s Court yes­ter­day. Mokoena was ar­rested last week at a cit­rus farm in Zebe­diela out­side Polok­wane after an al­ter­ca­tion dur­ing a meet­ing he held with farm work­ers. Po­lice said Mokoena produced a firearm and shot at four peo­ple aged 32, 50, 52 and 38 and then drove off in his ve­hi­cle. The in­jured suf­fered se­ri­ous gun­shot wounds and were taken to hospi­tal. Mokoena is EFF leader Julius Malema’s attorney. Malema ar­rived at the court yes­ter­day to lend sup­port to his lawyer. Mokoena rep­re­sented Malema in his dis­pute with his Sars and cases of al­leged land in­va­sion in the KwaZulu-Natal and the Free State courts. Po­lice spokesper­son Lieu­tenant Moatshe Ngoepe said Mokoena would be back in court on Au­gust 25. – ANA
