BEIJING: The US deployment of an advanced anti-missile system in South Korea gravely harmed the strategic security interests of China, Russia and other countries in the region, said Chinese President Xi Jinping.

In an interview with Russian media published yesterday, Xi said the Terminal High Altitude Area Defence installation jeopardised the strategic balance in the region, and was unhelpful to denuclearising the Korean Peninsula and maintaining regional peace and stability.

China and Russia had kept close communication and co-ordination at various levels on the issue, and held very similar views on its essence and damage, said Xi, whose country has rejected the move.

He suggested that the relevant countries cancel the installation. Xinhua
