NEW DELHI: At least 14 people died after drinking illegally brewed poisonous alcohol in northern India, prompting authorities to launch a crackdown and order a probe.
The villagers fell ill after drinking the alcohol at two locations in Azamgarh district of Uttar Pradesh state on Thursday night.
“Many of those who drank the liquor started complaining of stomach pain and headache,” senior administration official Chandrabhushan Singh said yesterday. He added that 14 people were still being treated in hospital. – dpa
