IS leader is ‘dead’
CAIRO: The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights says it received “information confirming” the death of Islamic State (IS) leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.
Rami Abdel Rahman, head of the Britain-based Observatory, said al-Baghdadi has died in Deir al-Zour province in eastern Syria. The Observatory’s statement comes one month after it disputed Russia’s claim that it could have killed al-Baghdadi in an air strike around the city of Raqqa on May 28. – dpa
