40 cats die in fire

WEST HAVEN: Fire of­fi­cials say dozens of cats were killed and five were res­cued dur­ing a house fire in Con­necti­cut yes­ter­day.

West Shore Fire Chief Stephen Sca­fariello said sev­eral fire de­part­ments re­sponded to the blaze. Three adults and one child es­caped un­harmed, but he es­ti­mated that 40 cats died.

The house has sig­nif­i­cant dam­age and has been de­clared un­in­hab­it­able. The Amer­i­can Red Cross is help­ing the res­i­dents find tem­po­rary hous­ing. – AP
