Turk­ish po­lice kill IS mil­i­tants in raid

ANKARA: Four Turk­ish po­lice were lightly in­jured and five Is­lamic State mil­i­tants were killed dur­ing a raid on a house in the cen­tral city of Konya yes­ter­day, the pro­vin­cial gover­nor’s of­fice said.

Spe­cial-forces po­lice launched the op­er­a­tion at the house in the Meram district of the city early yes­ter­day morn­ing be­cause they be­lieved the mil­i­tant cell was plan­ning at­tacks, the pri­vate Do­gan news agency said.

The dead men were thought to be plan­ning a num­ber of at­tacks tar­get­ing events that were com­mem­o­rat­ing the first an­niver­sary of an at­tempted mil­i­tary coup in Tur­key on July 15.

The mil­i­tary as­sault on the house, part of a raid on 10 homes in Konya, was an ef­fort to se­cure build­ings along routes used by mil­i­tary ve­hi­cles.
