Turkish police kill IS militants in raid
ANKARA: Four Turkish police were lightly injured and five Islamic State militants were killed during a raid on a house in the central city of Konya yesterday, the provincial governor’s office said.
Special-forces police launched the operation at the house in the Meram district of the city early yesterday morning because they believed the militant cell was planning attacks, the private Dogan news agency said.
The dead men were thought to be planning a number of attacks targeting events that were commemorating the first anniversary of an attempted military coup in Turkey on July 15.
The military assault on the house, part of a raid on 10 homes in Konya, was an effort to secure buildings along routes used by military vehicles.
