Elec­trolux profit up 22 per­cent

SWE­DEN-BASED home­ap­pli­ance-maker Elec­trolux said yes­ter­day that its sec­ondquar­ter net profit climbed 22 per­cent. Net profit was 1.3 bil­lion kro­nor (R2bn), com­pared with 1bn kro­nor in the same pe­riod a year ago. Year-on-year net sales rose 5.1 per­cent to 31.5bn kro­nor, ac­cord­ing to the com­pany. Chief ex­ec­u­tive Jonas Sa­muel­son said the Euro­pean mar­ket, ex­cept for the UK, was “solid”. The US mar­ket was also “strong”, while the Mid­dle East and Africa re­mained “weak”. In Latin Amer­ica, there were signs of a “slow re­cov­ery”, he said in a state­ment. – dpa
