Let MPs vote their own way

- Tom Lambe

HAVING read the daily papers, as I do every day, I am coming to the conclusion that there are very few, if any, honest political parties.

From the articles I have read almost, all parties are prohibiting their MPs from voting with their conscience.

I do understand that in some cases the parties wish their MPs to vote with the party, but surely everybody is entitled to vote with their conscience when they believe there is a conflict between the MPs’ conscience and the party line?

The only regime I can recall that insisted that all MPs voted with the party was the USSR, which no longer exists! Is it not time that South Africa accepted a little honesty and allowed all MPs, of all parties, to engage in all votes with their conscience? Oakdene
