DURING “Made in America” week, US President Donald Trump’s Mara-Lago Club in Palm Beach submitted requests to hire 70 foreign workers on H-2B visas.

According to the Department of Labour, the president’s Florida-based club is seeking 15 housekeepers, 20 cooks and 35 waiters on H-2B visas.

Earlier this week, Trump expanded the H-2B programme to add 15 000 visas, while he promoted products made in the US.

The president focused on jobs for Americans while on the campaign trail. “We believe jobs must be offered to American workers first,” Trump said in an April speech.

But many Trump-branded products are not manufactured in the US. For example, Trump eyeglasses are made in China, as are items from the Trump Home Collection.

The business of Ivanka Trump, the president’s daughter and assistant, has been criticised for using foreign workers and making products in China.
