Seven ar­rested for cop’s mur­der

GAUT­ENG de­tec­tives, who were in­ves­ti­gat­ing the mur­der of 30-year-old po­lice con­sta­ble Akani Brondly Mongwe yes­ter­day, made seven ar­rests. Spokesper­son Colonel Lun­gelo Dlamini said two con­sta­bles from Dob­sonville, Soweto, had been pa­trolling Bram­fis­cherville when they were shot at by men with pis­tols and ri­fles. The con­sta­bles were wounded and called for back-up. When K9 Unit mem­bers ar­rived, they too came un­der fire which led to a shootout. A sus­pect was shot and killed. Dlamini said Mongwe had died in hos­pi­tal. Po­lice dis­cov­ered that the gang had bombed an ATM at a petrol sta­tion in Bram­fis­cherville. – ANA
