Elec­tion case dis­missed

LUSAKA: A Zam­bian court has ac­quit­ted a former min­is­ter and four oth­ers on charges of hav­ing stolen ma­te­ri­als re­lated to last year’s dis­puted gen­eral elec­tions.

Ob­vi­ous Mwaliteta, a former pro­vin­cial min­is­ter who re­signed and joined the main op­po­si­tion United Party for Na­tional Devel­op­ment be­fore the poll, and his co-ac­cused were dis­charged af­ter the judge ruled that no weapons or ma­te­ri­als had been found on them to prove that they had com­mit­ted the of­fence.
