Tourist vis­its on the rise

THE NUM­BER num­ber of tourists vis­it­ing France has in­creased in the sec­ond quar­ter of 2017, af­ter the sig­nif­i­cant de­cline in the af­ter­math of ter­ror­ists at­tacks in 2015-2016, with the num­ber of tourists’ overnight stays in Paris reach­ing lev­els of 2015, France’s Na­tional In­sti­tute of Sta­tis­tics and Eco­nomic Stud­ies (Insee) said on Tues­day. Ac­cord­ing to the data, col­lected by Insee, the num­ber of overnight stays in dif­fer­ent types of tourist ac­com­mo­da­tion has in­creased by 10.2 per­cent year-on-year and reached a to­tal of 107.1 mil­lion nights in the sec­ond quar­ter of 2017. Mean­while, the num­ber of for­eign tourists’ overnight stays has in­creased by 10.4 per­cent year-on-year, and the num­ber of French tourists’ overnight stays has grown by 10.1 per­cent. “This in­crease was much sharper than that in the pre­vi­ous two quar­ters and more than off­set the sig­nif­i­cant de­cline recorded a year ear­lier (−5.3 per­cent) dur­ing the post­ter­ror­ist pe­riod. – Sput­nik
