Your help is needed to find right names

JOBURG res­i­dents have the op­por­tu­nity to name the 13 new Rea Vaya sta­tions from the Joburg CBD to Alexan­dra, Green­stone and Sand­ton.

Res­i­dents have un­til Oc­to­ber 31 to send their pro­posed names for the new Rea Vaya bus sta­tions, as well as the pedes­trian bridge over the M1 at Marl­boro, the new in­ter­changes, and a pedes­trian path that is be­ing com­pleted.

“The city pol­icy re­quires that the mem­bers of the pub­lic must have a say in terms of the nam­ing of th­ese new trans­port in­fra­struc­tures that we are build­ing as part of the city’s trans­port master plan,” said Nonhlanhla He­len Makhuba, mem­ber of the may­oral com­mit­tee for trans­port. The sta­tions in this third phase will be up and run­ning by Oc­to­ber next year between the Joburg CBD, Alexan­dra and Sand­ton.

“We are en­cour­ag­ing all Joburg res­i­dents to take part in this his­toric nam­ing, which will be se­lected based ei­ther on the his­tory of the area or a geo­graphic land­mark,” she said.

Com­mu­nity lead­ers are also be­ing con­sulted, in­clud­ing all key stake­hold­ers and city coun­cil­lors, to par­tic­i­pate in this process. The pub­lic will be asked to vote for the fi­nal names. More in­for­ma­tion on the pro­pos­als and his­tory of the route can be found on www.reavaya.org.za
