Chance for those with designs on being next best menswear designer
FOR THE Past five years, SA Fashion Week (SAFW) has been scouting for the next best designer for menswear in the country.
This year is no different. The competition will heat up with an added bonus of an all-expenses-paid trip to Italy.
MINI, the luxury car brand, has partnered with SAFW and GQ Magazine to expose talent and give them a headstart in fashion.
“The aim of MINI Scouting Menswear is to assist talented designers, with the potential for commercial growth, to start making the transition from a developing creative to a sustainable business that can play a role in the creative fashion industry, create jobs and wealth, and contribute to the GDP of the country,” said SAFW chief executive Lucilla Booyzen.
MINI Scouting Menswear is open to fashion designers who have been in business for under 10 years, and are working towards establishing their brands in the country.
To qualify, designers must have a formal fashion design qualification or five years of design experience.
GQ South Africa editor-inchief Nkosiyati Khumalo said: “The Scouting Menswear competition opens doors, and goes beyond the momentary glitz of the runway to equip a new generation of designers with the tools to transform creative vision into commercial success. GQ is thrilled to be able to partner with SAFW again as we search for the country’s next great menswear designer,” added Khumalo.
Previous winners include Hennie de Kock for his label Rogue wear and Floyd Manotoano for his designer label Floyd
