Peace talks proposed
KHARTOUM: The AU on Tuesday welcomed Sudan’s proposal to host a meeting between South Sudanese President Salva Kiir and opposition leader Riek Machar, the Sudanese Media Centre reported.
“The AU welcomes any step to achieve peace in South Sudan,” said Wakil Amutingon, acting head of the AU liaison office in Khartoum.
Foreign ministers of the member states of the Inter-Governmental Authority on Development (IGAD) in Africa in May agreed to hold a face-to-face meeting between Kiir and Machar. – Xinhua
