Serial Wilro Park power cuts are most frustrating
DANIELE LEMAIRE OF WILRO PARK WRITES: There seems to be a big problem with the power supply in our area (probably in some other areas too), which results in us experiencing very frequent power cuts and outages.
During the past year, these power cuts have become more and more frequent and I’m talking approximately one a week as of a few months ago.
Last Sunday, there was a planned power outage because the city was going to be doing maintenance and repair work to the systems affecting our area, with the promise that this was going to improve the service.
It seems, however, that almost every time we have a thunderstorm, Wilropark suffers power outages. Sometimes they last for about two hours and sometimes for up to five or even eight hours. A couple of months ago, we had a power outage for almost two entire days.
I’m sure I don’t have to explain the utter frustration and helplessness we feel as residents and taxpayers. I know people who live five minutes away from us and they don’t have this problem. I realise this is probably because we are on different “grids”, but still.
We are desperate in our plight and simply do not know what to do, or where to turn. Can someone please explain why this is happening so often, and why it seems that nothing is being done to sort it out permanently?
Whatever the cause or root of the problem is, is not being addressed and rectified, and it is grossly unfair that we should be made to suffer the consequences. CITY POWER REPLIES: A combination of theft, vandalism, cable faults and damage of cables by third parties are the causes of power outages in areas supplied by Wilro Park substation.
