THE DEPARTMENT of Trade and Industry (dti ) said yesterday it would lead a delegation of South African companies to the 2017 Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF), which takes place in the country’s second-biggest city, Bulawayo, next week. The six-day trade fair opens on Tuesday. South Africa’s participation in the ZITF last year resulted in exhibitors securing 431 trade leads and export sales of R10 million. Trade and Industry Minister Rob Davies said the ZITF was one of the largest intra-regional trade fairs in sub-Saharan Africa, and it provides the largest trade hub in the region. “The ZITF aims to promote intra-Africa trade, as well as the economic integration of the continent,” Davies said. Firms that were part of the delegation would be assisted by the dti through its export marketing and investment assistance scheme, which aims to develop export markets for South African products and services, and recruit foreign direct investment. – ANA
