Your help is needed to find right names
JOBURG residents have the opportunity to name the 13 new Rea Vaya stations from the Joburg CBD to Alexandra, Greenstone and Sandton.
Residents have until October 31 to send their proposed names for the new Rea Vaya bus stations, as well as the pedestrian bridge over the M1 at Marlboro, the new interchanges, and a pedestrian path that is being completed.
“The city policy requires that the members of the public must have a say in terms of the naming of these new transport infrastructures that we are building as part of the city’s transport master plan,” said Nonhlanhla Helen Makhuba, member of the mayoral committee for transport. The stations in this third phase will be up and running by October next year between the Joburg CBD, Alexandra and Sandton.
“We are encouraging all Joburg residents to take part in this historic naming, which will be selected based either on the history of the area or a geographic landmark,” she said.
Community leaders are also being consulted, including all key stakeholders and city councillors, to participate in this process. The public will be asked to vote for the final names. More information on the proposals and history of the route can be found on www.reavaya.org.za
