Price did not dampen bid spirit
THE WATER-stained, grey woollen suit worn by Gene Kelly in the classic 1952 MGM musical Singin’ in the Rain’ was sold on auction five years ago for £65 000 (now about R1.2 million).
The garment was bought by Robert Earl, founder of the restaurant chain Planet Hollywood, who had been after it since it resurfaced on the auction market early in 2013.
The piece of Hollywood history may have come at a price but will probably escalate in value in years to come. – Auctions Writer
