Groom’s big day ends in tragedy
A BRIDEGROOM fired four shots at a traditional wedding in KwaZulu-Natal on Sunday to break up a fight, killing an 18year-old in the process. He is now facing a murder charge.
The gun-toting Eshowe groom fired at least four shots at the ceremony. Another man was seriously wounded in the fracas‚ which broke out at the wedding held at the Ezingwenya reserve in Eshowe.
Police spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Thulani Zwane said detectives had arrested the 38-year-old groom at his family homestead where the nuptials were being held.
“Since it was a traditional wedding‚ a number of people were attending. While the ceremony was on‚ a fight broke out between young ales. The suspect started firing warning shots to disperse the crowd. Unfortunately an 18-year-old sustained gunshot wounds to his leg and armpit and died at the scene,” he said.
Zwane said another man was wounded and taken to hospital.
“The suspect was then arrested and will appear at the Eshowe Magistrate’s Court in due course.”
