Create a light car and you could win R1,7 mln
LOCAL Motors’ latest challenge asks participants to create a light car concept for $150 000 in cash prizes — including $60 000 (over R1,7 million) for the winner and $10 000 (over R116 000) for sixth place.
The company argues cars should not still weigh as much as they did in the seventies, as the areas of safety, consumption and acceleration have at least doubled in efficiency.
Local Motors said in its YouTube presentation it is “looking for ideas beyond state of the art, ideas yet to be born” in welding shops, on CAD screens, or in designer studios.
There are no restrictions on what materials or technologies can be used, but the finished product must be a standard five-passenger sedan, meet current safety standards and use current roads.
Local Motors is accepting submissions until March 6, 2015. A panel of judges will review the entries and award. Visit https://localmotors.com
