AFTER huge hailstones hammered hundreds of cars in KZN’s capital last week, many car owners are now trying to pop out the dents using DIY methods.

Wayne Barker at Dent Boss warned against playing backyard panel beater to fix your car’s dents, if you value the paint on your car.

“You hear of people using hair dryers to try to heat up the metal to pop out a dent, or rubbing the dents out with their fingers, but all they do is cause more damage than the hail did by causing fine cracks in the layers of paint,” he said.

He said these cracks quickly allow the metal beneath to rust, especially if people use the wrong soaps to clean their cars with.

“I should not complain, because this means more business for us, but people can save themselves a lot by just getting us to fix the dents quickly and cheaply in the first place. It is what we do best,” Barker said.
