NIGE­RIA LAUNCHES ATTACK ON BOKO

ABUJA — Nige­ria’s army killed more than 300 mem­bers of Is­lamist ter­ror­ist group Boko Haram and re­cap­tured 11 towns and vil­lages in the coun­try’s north- east, the de­fence min­istry said yes­ter­day.

Two sol­diers were killed and 10 oth­ers were in­jured dur­ing a two- day land and air op­er­a­tion, spokesper­son Chris Oluko­lade said.

Also yes­ter­day, Boko Haram threat­ened to launch at­tacks to dis­rupt Nige­ria’s pres­i­den­tial elec­tion in late March, say­ing democ­racy was un- Is­lamic. “Al­lah says that the author­ity is only to him, only his rule is the one which ap­plies in this land,” group leader Abubakar Shekau said in a video posted on Twit­ter.
