• Snail Trails and Other Tales Pierre Coetzee and Leighton Jones, with illustrations by Shan Fischer Human & Rousseau SNAIL Trails and Other Tales contains three delightfully illustrated stories for young children which aim to develop their vocabulary. One of the stories, The Garden Visit, is about Herman the snail who lives in a head of cabbage on one side of a big vegetable garden.
One day, Herman decides to visit his friend Paxton, who lives in a head of lettuce on the other side, but it takes him an entire year to make the journey. Along the way, he meets a host of interesting creatures and teaches the children reading the story about the months of the year, vegetables and garden creatures.
The second tale, The Island Adven- ture, concerns Mox and Kat who are stranded on an island and are so hungry! As they find different things to eat, they teach children the days of the week, counting to 10 and learning the names of fruit. The final story, Who Has Enough
Puff? is about a mouse family that has to see who has enough puff to blow out Benny’s birthday candles.
