NOKO and the Kool Kats is a de­light­ful pic­ture book about Noko the por­cu­pine and his friends Ufudu the tor­toise, Mara Boo the stork, Ma Warthog, Clever Monkey, Takadu the aard­vark, Shy Pan­golin and Bush­baby. They all wish they could visit the big city and go to a rock con­cert fea­tur­ing their favourite band, the Kool Kats.

On their way home from the river bank, Noko and his friends dis­cover a truck stuck in the sand and are thrilled when they find out that it’s the Kool Kats’ bus. Work­ing to­gether, they free the stranded bus and then im­press the rock stars with some home- grown mu­sic. — Books Edi­tor.

• Snail Trails and Other Tales Pierre Coet­zee and Leighton Jones, with il­lus­tra­tions by Shan Fischer Hu­man & Rousseau SNAIL Trails and Other Tales con­tains three de­light­fully il­lus­trated sto­ries for young chil­dren which aim to de­velop their vo­cab­u­lary. One of the sto­ries, The Gar­den Visit, is about Her­man the snail who lives in a head of cab­bage on one side of a big veg­etable gar­den.

One day, Her­man de­cides to visit his friend Pax­ton, who lives in a head of let­tuce on the other side, but it takes him an en­tire year to make the jour­ney. Along the way, he meets a host of in­ter­est­ing crea­tures and teaches the chil­dren read­ing the story about the months of the year, veg­eta­bles and gar­den crea­tures.

The sec­ond tale, The Is­land Ad­ven- ture, con­cerns Mox and Kat who are stranded on an is­land and are so hun­gry! As they find dif­fer­ent things to eat, they teach chil­dren the days of the week, count­ing to 10 and learn­ing the names of fruit. The fi­nal story, Who Has Enough

Puff? is about a mouse fam­ily that has to see who has enough puff to blow out Benny’s birth­day can­dles.
