THE park­ing lot at Granny Mouse in the Mid­lands last week had a park­ing lot filled with the model that won Europe’s Car of 2014.

They were the Peu­geot 308, two mod­els of which the French car maker has now launched in South Africa, both with 1.2 en­gines dubbed 110 and 130. The 1.2 PureTech Ac­tive has a three-cylin­der, quad-valve, tur­bocharged en­gine mak­ing 81 kW at 5 500 rpm and 205 Nm at 1 500 rpm, us­ing a five-speed man­ual gear­box.

The 130 en­gine in the 308 GT Line makes 96kW at 5 500 rpm and 240 Nm from 1 750 rpm through a six-speed man­ual gear­box.

A three-year or 100 000 km man­u­fac­turer’s war­ranty, a five-year or 60 000 km ser­vice plan, and a three­year or 100 000 km road­side as­sis­tance pack­age are stan­dard. — WR.
