THE all-new edgy Toyota Aygo made its first local public appearance before a crowd of 18 000 at the Red Bull X-Fighters event held at the Union Buildings in Tshwane last Saturday.

Featuring bold styling and incorporating a prominent “X” motif in the front grille, which extends upwards to the A pillar and side mirrors to create a unique identity and strong road presence, the new Aygo is no shrinking violet. The result is a decidedly cheeky, five-door hatch that exudes a sporty, youthful and energetic image, and is perfectly suited to conquer the urban jungle.

Under the bonnet lurks a characterful 51 kW, 1,0-litre three-cylinder engine with the best thermal properties in its class. It’s good for a sub 15-second 0-100 km/h sprint time and incredible fuel economy — just 4,4 litres per 100 km in the combined cycle.

Without giving away too much, the newcomer gets the Full Monty treatment when it comes to specifications, boasting standard features such as display audio, Bluetooth functionality, automatic door lock, front power windows, air conditioning and a full suite of safety kit.

Local introduction of the competitively priced Aygo has been confirmed for October, with full specification details to follow prior to market introduction.
