Suzuki can lay claim to having created the small SUV niche when it made the Vitara in 1988. The latest Vitara five models are smooth operators, with the top of the range versions offering AllGrip technology and a host of personalisation options, all backed by a comprehensive three-year or 100 000 km warranty, as well as a four-year or 60 000 km service plan, and a three-year roadside assistance package. Services are at 15 000 km intervals. Prices range from just under R240k up to R320k, with the GL+ — the model adventurers will say hits the sweet spot — currently waiting for a new owner at Suzuki in Pietermaritzburg for R269 900. AllGrip adds R22k to the price of the GL+.
