Ar­rests im­mi­nent for mur­der of el­derly woman

PO­LICE said ar­rests for the mur­der of an el­derly Pi­eter­mar­itzburg woman were im­mi­nent af­ter she was found in a pool of blood at her home on Satur­day.

Pi­eter­mar­itzburg spokesper­son War­rant Of­fi­cer Joshua Maistry said yes­ter­day that po­lice rushed to the woman’s home on Chota Mo­tala Road near New Home Fur­nish­ers on Satur­day morn­ing af­ter re­ceiv­ing a re­port of mur­der.

At the house, po­lice found 80-yearold Pre­mawathie Hamd­hin ly­ing on a bed with pools of blood drown­ing the sheets around her waist area.

Maistry said ac­cord­ing to a state­ment by Hamd­hin’s grand­son to the po­lice, he went to visit his grand­mother but found the doors locked with no re­sponse from in­side the house.

Af­ter forc­ing open the door, the grand­son found Hamd­hin’s body in her bed­room.

Maistry said paramedics de­clared Hamd­hin dead at her home and po­lice were await­ing a post-mortem re­port to de­ter­mine the cause of her death.

“At this stage, no­body has been ar­rested as yet, how­ever ar­rests of the sus­pects are im­mi­nent,” Maistry said.
