TODAY marks a decade since the brutal murder of awardwinning Pietermaritzburg gynaecologist Dr Sabera Bhamjee – with her family still waiting for justice to be served.

Bhamjee, wife of Umgungundlovu District Mayor Yusuf Bhamjee, was stabbed more than 60 times in her rooms at the St Anne’s Medical Centre on June 2, 2006, while she was alone during lunch time.

Years of police investigations and wild-goose chases later, the well-loved doctor’s killers are yet to be arrested.

Speaking to The Witness yesterday, Yusuf Bhamjee said the family still have the hope that “someone out there” has information on his wife’s death.

“We continue to urge anyone with information to contact the police in this matter so we as a family can arrive at some sort of closure,” Bhamjee said.
