TRIBUTES pour ed in f or uM gungundlovu district Education director Jennifer Baiju after her sudden death was announced yesterday afternoon.
KwaZuluNatal E ducation MEC Mthandeni Dlung wana r eleased a statement yesterday afternoon about the “committed” district director’s death, with tribut es pouring in f or Baiju on social media platf orms.
Facebook user Ziningi Mbele said in a post on social media that Baiju’s death was “a gr eat los s indeed f or Umgungundlovu Dis trict. M ay her soul rest in peac e.”
In another Facebook post user Nozipho Mkhize said Baiju had died too soon.
Dlungwana’s said B aiju w as an outstanding administrator and leader and that she had died y esterday morning after a “short illne ss”.
“She serv ed the K waZuluNatal Department of Education in various capacities f or mor e than t wo decades,” said Dlung wana.
“She was instrumental in promoting the transformation of education system.
“Over the past few years the Department of E ducation benefit ed from her visionary leadership which portrayed her philosophy that teaching should make a difference in society,” he said.
“Her contributions and expertise in the field of education ha ve been widely acknowledged by colleagues in the dep artment.
“As we mourn her p assing away, the department appreciates her in valuable c ontribution, and she will be remembered as one of the mos t dedicated leader s the dep artment has produced.”
“We take this opportunity to convey our sinc ere condolences to the friends and members of the bereaved family. May her soul r est in et ernal peace,” he said.
A memorial service will be held for Baiju tomorrow, at Maritzburg College, at noon.
Her funeral will be held on Friday with the time and v enue still to be confirmed. — Witness Reporter.
