Quality cattle impress international judge
INTERNATIONAL judge Carlos Ojea Rullan was extremely impressed with the quality of Red and Black Angus cat tle on show at the Royal Showgrounds in Piet ermaritzburg on Monday.
A guest of the KwaZuluNatal Angus Club, Rullan, who comes from Argentina, has 10 years’ experience judging the br eed around the world.
Speaking t o the br eeders, he said the y could be proud of their animals and that he would love to take some of those he’ d seen in the ring b ack to his Sur angus R anch in South America.
Nottingham Roadbased Invermooi Stud did extremely well in the Royal Show competition, coming away with the title of Gr and Champion Angus on Sho w for their Black Angus cow Copelands Beef Miss CBC 08376, and the Reserve to the Grand Champion, a Red Angus (Black Mamba Foxy Lady 2DE). Miss CBC had earlier been named senior cow champion.
The stud, owned by Paul Coetzee, also had the senior champion Angus bull on show, Epworth Magnificent.
Breeder and leading transplant surgeon Dr Rob Kleinloog, of N etherwood Angus Stud in N ottingham R oad, c ontinued the Midlands su ccess w hen his bull, N etherwood Zapper, w as named the R eserve Gr and Champion on sho w.
The Grand Champion and junior champion bull w as Waterval New Zaid, o wned by the WAF Trust based in Clocolan in the Free State; and the Shant on Stud in the D argle took home the prizes for champion heifer calf for Shanton KHC 150022 and champion junior female for Shanton KHC 1 40018.
