FORMER w orld num­ber one Tig er Woods said al co­hol w as no t a fac­tor in his DUI arr est on Mon­day and in stead bl amed an un­ex­pected r eac­tion t o pr es­cribed med­i­ca­tions.

Woods, who is curr ently side­lined fr om c om­pe­ti­tion af ter ha ving his f ourth b ack sur gery in April, said in a s tate­ment he took full r espon­si­bil­ity f or his ac tions and apol ogised t o his f am­ily, friends and f ans.

“I w ant the pub­lic t o kno w that al co­hol w as no t inv olved. What hap­pened w as an une xpected r eac­tion t o pr es­cribed med­i­ca­tions,” he said. “I didn ’t re­alise the mix o f medic ations had af fected me so s trongly."

Woods w as r eleased s ev­eral hours af ter be­ing book ed.
