MATRICS ADVISED TO GET IDs EARLY

MATRICULANTS have been encouraged to have their Identity Documents (IDs) ready when registering for their matric exams to avoid unnecessary delays when they receive their matric certificates.

THE KwaZuluNatal Department of Education spokesperson Muzi Mahlambi said while no pupils are excluded from registering for their matric exams because they do not have IDs, it is an advantage to have an ID number as it cuts out delays and unnecessary stress later.

“The form used to register for the matric exams gives pupils three options, a passport number, ID number or a birth certificate number.”

Mahlambi said the problem with registering for matric exams using a birth certificate number was that when the matric certificates are issued, pupils have to go to the department’s offices to link their certificates to their ID, which could be a lengthy process. • nompilo.kunene@witness.co.za
